In August 2008, Denver and The Brown Palace prepared for the arrival of the Democratic National Convention. President George W. Bush had stayed at the hotel three times during his term in office, and The Brown fully expected to host presumptive nominee Barack Obama and his family during the DNC.
All three of The Brown’s Presidential Suites are named in honor of Republican Chief Executives: Eisenhower, Reagan, and (Teddy) Roosevelt. In anticipation of the Obamas’ visit, the Eisenhower Suite was temporarily transformed into the “Obama Suite” by replacing pictures of Ike with Obama family photos throughout the space. The redecoration was hastily undone, however, when it was learned that the Obamas would be staying elsewhere, and that rival candidate Hillary Clinton was assigned to the suite.
