Local Musicians in the Mile High City Featured Every Sunday at ‘Jazz in the Park’

The Mile High City may be known as the gateway to the Rockies, but when summer rolls around, you can find most Denver locals soaking up the sunshine and enjoying a Colorado micro-brew on the patio. For Sunday evening entertainment, City Park Jazz is a staple summertime activity for Denverites and a perfect way to enjoy the city’s eclectic local music scene.

City Park JazzFun for the whole family, City Park Jazz is always a highlight of the summer months. Arrive early on Sunday evening to snag a spot on the lawn near the bandstand pavilion. Enjoy many of our local food trucks or bring a picnic of your own.

Although the City Park Jazz series kicked off in early June, there is still plenty of time to catch this season’s local talent. Sam Mayfield brings the blues this Sunday, July 14, followed by The Ken Walker Sextet on July 21. The sextet is a favorite in the Denver jazz club circuit drawing in local fans with their unique, upbeat sound. Walker, a faculty instructor at the University of Denver’s Lamont School of Music, is no novice to live performances with appearances at both the Telluride and Aspen/Snowmass Jazz Festivals.

Sunday afternoon wouldn’t be complete without a solid show of late afternoon sunshine and snazzy tunes with great friends. Grab a few of your favorite Colorado brews or a bottle of vino and join the Denver community for Sunday Jazz in City Park.

Summer in the City: 16th Street Mall Happenings

Summer in the City: Skyline Market Get ready for a summer in the city!  The Skyline Market in the heart of Skyline Park opened on Arapahoe between 15th and 16th streets last Friday.  This is Denver’s new definition of a market—a food experience that offers artisanal products, ready-to-eat food and a farm fresh experience all in one.  The new market provides a variety of options for downtown workers, residents and visitors to enjoy different experiences, entertainment and culture that you won’t find elsewhere.  Stop by between 11AM and 7PM for a beer and wine garden and a chance to shop the market with a local chef.  In addition to live music during the lunch hour and happy hour, Skyline Market will feature pre-made food items, chef demos, cooking demonstrations, fresh market foods and flowers.  Also enjoy a special dinner prepared by one of Denver’s best chefs.

More changes are coming to 16th Street Mall.  Four blocks will be reinvented to create sub-districts as a gathering place where people can stay and enjoy art, culture, nature, entertainment, retail and food.  The blocks between Curtis and Welton will be home to irreplaceable street food and shopping options all summer long from 11AM to 6PM.  Between Welton and California expect to see a number of tent events—a flea market of continually rotating, eclectic merchandise.  From California to Stout, six to eight local food vendors will offer ethnic and diverse cuisines as well as lounging areas with tables and chairs to enjoy outside dining.  The block between Stout and Champa will host food and merchandise vendors and various special events, product introductions and sampling opportunities.

We’re excited for a great summer in the Mile High City!
