Derby Day at The Brown Palace

The Kentucky Derby—also known as The Run for the Roses or The Most Exciting Two Minutes in Sports—enters its 144th year on Saturday, May 5 at Churchill Downs. Can’t make it to Louisville this weekend? You can still enjoy the excitement of the races during Derby Day at The Brown Palace in Downtown Denver.

Don your best derby outfits (think: wide-brimmed hats and pastel-colored suits) for an afternoon of horse racing. Start the day with Ellyngton’s decadent Derby Day Brunch, which includes your choice of Domaine Chandon, Moet & Chandon, or Dom Perignon by the bottle. Then, head to our beautiful Lobby Atrium, which will be decked out for a special Kentucky Derby party from 3:00-7:00pm.

Indulge in a tasty selection from our Derby Day menu and enjoy a live performance by the Meadow Mountain Blue Grass Band, followed by the John Kite Jazz Ensemble. And be sure to grab a refreshing mint julep, the traditional beverage of Churchill Downs, before post time for the main race at 4:34pm. The favorites for this year are Justify and Mendelssohn, but we’re rooting for the long shot—let’s go, Dream Baby Dream!

The fun doesn’t have to end after the final stretch: Stay at The Brown Palace and enjoy dinner at the Palace Arms or Ship Tavern, or grab a nightcap at Churchill Bar. Better yet, finish your fun-filled day in luxurious Downtown Denver accommodations fit for a member of the winner’s circle.
